Defensive Driving course
Street Talk is an NZTA approved defensive driving course designed to help you become a safer and more skilled driver.
The Street Talk course consists four two-hour theory sessions in a classroom and a one-hour practical driving assessment. Over the duration of the course, you will learn concepts related to and factors that influence safe driving, risk awareness and management, behavior change and hazard awareness.
Upon successful completion of Street Talk, you will be eligible to reduce your wait time between the restricted and full license from 18 months to 12 months if under 25 years of age, and from six months to three months if 25 and over. This means you will be able to get your full license six months sooner if you are under 25, and three months sooner if you are 25 and over. Completing a defensive driving course also significantly increases your chances of passing your practical test on the first attempt.
You will need a minimum of a learner licence or an overseas licence to be able to attend Street Talk. It is recommended that learner drivers have had at least 50 hours of driving prior to attending. You will also need to provide a vehicle for the practical driving assessment and ensure the car has a valid Rego and WOF.
